A Date with Advertising

Those of you who are long time followers of Pirates of the Burning Sea may have noticed that we've missed a release date or two - which is unfortunate, but hardly surprising. When you're working on another shooter (this time with two guns!), you can build a schedule that won't slip too much. When you're building a new type of game, you're not sure exactly how long it will take because you have to try things out by building them, playing them, and then throwing them away and starting over again with the knowledge that you've gained. That's iterative design, and while you can schedule somewhat for it, it can really play havoc with your release date.
