RF Online: Interview @ Ten Ton Hammer

by Dhruin, 2006-07-21 22:38:00
Ten Ton Hammer has interviewed Codemasters' Kyle "Laeth" Rowley about RF Online:
Ten Ton Hammer: In an interview with GameSpy, Codemasters' Michael Rowland stated that "RF Online's core belief is that players need to work together for success and embrace their faction as their family. Working together will bear fruit to rewards whereas individual play won't be as rewarded." The trend in today's MMOs has been towards a large amount of solo content, with large group content compartmentalized into instances. Is the RF Online experience tenable for someone who enjoys playing in a massively multiplayer setting but prefers to solo most of the time?

Rowley: A lot of the early sections of the game allow players to either group up with fellow players or solo by themselves, but as the game progresses and players move up through the levels a the difficulty increases dramatically. Ita "!s during these stages in the game that grouping up with players of the same level is very beneficial. Thata "!s not to say that it is impossible to solo play a and a lot of our players to prefer to do this rather than group up a but it comes at a price and will require a lot more work.

Ita "!s slightly different when players go up against other players, because of the way in which the game was designed. As the game is focused on mass PvP (RvRvR) rather than one vs one, it is difficult for players to fight on their own. Teamwork plays a major part in the way in which battles are played out, and each factiona "!s players need to work together to ensure their success in the Chip Wars.
