RPGWatch @ Gamescom - Call of Cthulhu

by Myrthos, 2017-08-31 00:23:29

There aren't that many Cthulhu games and especially not RPGs, so I was somehwat excited to learn more about Call of Cthulhu while I was at Gamescom.

Call of Cthulhu is an RPG-Investigation game, packed with psychological horror and stealth mechanics. You play as Edward Pierce, a former war veteran and private investigator with the game taking place in Boston, 1920. You are taken to Darkwater Island, a grim and disturbing place, to investigate the death of Sarah Hawkins, who has moved with her family to this island. According to the developers the game plays tribute to H.P. Lovecraft's work and universe.

What was shown to us was the early stage of the investigation when you just arrived on the island and all we have to go on is a painting, the only clue you have to find out what happened on the island. You are taken to the island by boat and the captain of the boat is the first person you interact with. The game is completely voiced and plays in 1st person, which for a horror themed game is the best way to go. However in a conversation the view changes to a floating camera, so that you can see both yourself and the other person(s) talking. Not all options in a conversation might be available Some are still locked and you need to unlock them first by retrieving hints.
