Deep Silver - Sacred 3 Next Year

by Dhruin, 02:10

You may recall Deep Silver acquired the "Sacred" brand from Ascaron's ashes in 2009 and Sacred 3 was quickly announced - though will no real details. Deep Silver has now announced a side-scroller titled Sacred Citadel that will foreshadow Sacred 3 in 2013. The press release:

Three warriors unite against an evil that threatens to enslave the once peaceful world of Ancaria. Lord Zane’s Ashen Empire has created an army of Grimmocs, modified Orc henchmen at war with the Seraphim. Only when these heroes unite and use their skills to support each other they will stand a chance!

Deep Silver today announced the side-scrolling action brawler Sacred Citadel, a new standalone title that is set in the rich universe of Sacred. Sacred Citadel will reinvent the familiar arcade feel of classic brawlers while setting a new standard for the future of side scrolling hack and slash games.

There are several playable character classes, such as the Safiri Warrior, the Ancarian Ranger and the Khukuri Shaman, each with a different skill set that can be further individualized through RPG features and collectible items. Each character will also have the ability to dual-wield two exchangeable weapons, use combo attacks and perform double jumps. All of which combines into a fluid and unique arcade game experience with sophisticated graphics and spectacular effects. The player will also be able to ride mounts, use war machines and spend his hard earned cash in towns all over the world of Sacred Citadel.

Sacred Citadel will also offer an engrossing multiplayer mode: as up to three players can join forces against their enemies in seamless drop-in/drop-out coop mode.

The events in Sacred Citadel will act as a prologue to the next chapter of the Sacred story and will unveil an intriguing secret about the Seraphim that will directly relate to the action RPG Sacred 3, currently in development by keen games and to be released in 2013.

Sacred Citadel will be out in 2013 as a digital download title for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system through PLAYSTATION®Network, through Xbox LIVE® Arcade for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and through Steam and other ESD partners.

Sacred Citadel is being developed by Southend Interactive.

Deep Silver & Southpeak Form Strategic Alliance in NA

by Gorath, 17:11

Looks like it's a bit more than just a simple marketing cooperation. Especially the last paragraph is juicy:

SouthPeak Interactive and Koch Media's Deep Silver Announce Strategic Alliance in North America
MIDLOTHIAN, Va. & LOS ANGELES, Jan 07, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- SouthPeak Interactive Corporation (OTC Bulletin Board: SOPK) and Deep Silver, Inc., a Koch Media Company, today announced that they will team up to bring next generation videogames from Deep Silver to North America. Deep Silver is the games label of the Koch Media Group, which is one of the largest publishers and distributor of videogames and DVD movies for European markets.

"We are pleased to partner with such a well-respected and established company as Koch Media/Deep Silver and excited to join with their experienced leadership team," said Melanie Mroz, CEO of SouthPeak. "This strategic alliance gives us access to a great product line-up on all current generation platforms."

"SouthPeak instantly brings a great deal of market expertise in North America to our organization," said Geoff Mulligan, COO of Deep Silver. "Their team has a strong understanding of the product lifecycle including game development, marketing and retail placement. Most importantly, this alliance allows us to leverage their well established US publishing and distribution platform."

Under the agreement, SouthPeak will become the exclusive partner for Deep Silver in the Americas. As partial compensation for entering into this strategic alliance, Koch Media/Deep Silver will receive a minority stake in SouthPeak Corp.

Maybe the reports that Risen's retail availability in North America still had room for improvement were correct. ;)

Deep Silver / Koch Media handles at least two RPG brands: Sacred and Risen. New forum posts hint they'll also continue their cooperation with Piranha Bytes.

The full PR can be found for example on Southpeak's website.

Deep Silver North America Opens

by Gorath, 14:54

It seems we have forgotten to post this interesting news for RPG fans last week. You have probably seen it everywhere else:

Deep Silver North America
Hermosa Beach, Calif. -- Apr 30, 2008 -- Deep Silver, Inc., a publisher of interactive entertainment software for PC and consoles and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Koch Media, today announced the opening of their office in the Los Angeles metro area. The office will serve as headquarters for US sales and marketing activities, as well as North American developer relations.

"The opening of our United States office represents an important milestone in the development of Koch Media," commented Dr. Klemens Kundratitz, CEO of Koch Media. "In the last five years, Deep Silver was able to successfully position itself as a quality brand, and now enters the North American market with its own branch office. With a presence in the USA, we can market our own products more efficiently, all over the world."

"Opening an office in America means establishing Deep Silver in the world's largest market for games," said Cathy Tische, vice president of sales and marketing at Deep Silver. "The geographical location right in the center of the American games industry is ideal for future growth, and for building a network of business partners."

Deep Silver, Inc. is located at 2615 Pacific Coast Highway #225, Hermosa Beach, CA 90254-2250, USA.

In the past years, Koch Media recorded continuously growing sales. The overall turnover of the entire Koch Media group grew by double-digit percentages each year. The Koch Media group's annual sales volume for the year 2007 came to 231 million euros [That´s circa $331M; ed.]. In 2007, Deep Silver Vienna was founded as the first own development studio; the focus is clearly on own brands and multi-platform products with global market potential. The US expansion reinforces Koch Media's position as a leading independent publisher.

Deep Silver is a mayor player on the German market and an increasing force in many other European countries. Their listed titles include:

  • S.T.A.L.K.E.R - Clear Sky
  • RPB (working title)  by  Piranha Bytes
  • Sacred 2
  • A  lot of games by  Square Enix.
  • Trackmania
  • Their own adventure line (Secret Files: Tunguska, Perry Rhodan)
  • Titles from just about every  bigger  publisher  for their budget line.
