Anima: GoM - The Nameless Chronicles - Released

by Myrthos, 22:30

The Sequel to Anima: Gate of Memories, The Nameless Chronicles, has been released today.

Anima: Gate of Memories - The Nameless Chronicles is now available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

Madrid, Spain, June 19th, 2018:  Today, the long-awaited sequel to the indie jewel Anima: Gate of Memories has been released in digital format. The Nameless Chronicles is now available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC; the Nintendo Switch version, which shares every detail of the versions already launched (including a stable 60fps framerate), will be available on Nintendo eShop on June 29th.

The Nameless Chronicles takes us back to the events that gave birth to the first Anima, but from the standpoint of the enemy side. We will put ourselves in the role of The Nameless, an immortal who has been assuming different identities throughout history, and his quest to find a meaning to his eternal existence. In The Nameless Chronicles we will accompany him on a journey in which his past lives will be interwoven with a war in the shadows in which the fate of the world will be at stake.

Like Anima: Gate of Memories, this new installment is an Action RPG packed with spectacular attacks and memorable bosses, which mixes elements inherited from traditional table top RPG with a gameplay reminiscent of hack & slash classics like Devil May Cry and Nier: Automata. Action, exploration and evolution of the character through experience points are some of the mechanics included in its gameplay.

This new Anima is an adventure completely independent of the original game, although there will be no lack of elements, characters and winks that only those who have played the first instalment of the saga will recognize.

With an epic soundtrack created by Sonotrigger Studios and stunning visuals that, like on the first installment, blends cel-shading graphics with realistic 3D environments, The Nameless Chronicles has it all to become the Action RPG indie game of the year

If you haven't already had the chance to enter the world of Anima, Anima: Arcane Edition, which includes both installments in a single bundle, is also on sale in addition to The Nameless Chronicles. And if your preferred platform is Steam, you can take advantage of a series of launch discounts and get both titles at an irresistible price

Anima: GoM - The Nameless Chronicles Available June 19

by Myrthos, 12:02

Three years after the release of the original Anima: Gate of Memories, the successor to that game, The Nameless Chronicles, will become available on June 19th.

Anima: Gate of Memories - The Nameless Chronicles
will be released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam on June 19th.

Madrid, Spain, May 18th, 2018:  The Action RPG based on the famous tabletop role-playing game comes back with a new, totally different adventure and a new, dark protagonist. Nameless, who appeared in the first Anima as an enemy, will be the main character in The Nameless Chronicles. The Anima Project title will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC via Steam starting next June 19th.

Like Anima: Gate of Memories, The Nameless Chronicles is an Action RPG, hack & slash, full of magical attacks and final bosses, reminiscent of big names in the genre like Devil May Cry and Nier: Automata, and elements inherited from the traditional role. Action, exploration and evolution of the character through experience points are some of its mechanics.

Nameless Chronicles takes us back to the events that gave birth to the first Anima, but from the perspective of the enemy side. We will put ourselves in the shoes of "Nameless", an immortal who has assumed different identities throughout history, and his quest to find death after thousands of years in the world. In Nameless Chronicles we will learn details of the life of "The Nameless One", what moves him, and we will embody many of his past lives.

Carlos Blas, creator of the Anima universe, says of this new installment:  "Nameless Chronicles started out as just a little story, just another chapter in a story that grew and grew into something huge. Something we're proud of. The three members of our studio have given everything we got to make a game like this. Now, we are eager for people to enjoy the adventures of the Nameless One and see the world through their eyes."

This new Anima is a totally new and different adventure; in fact, the vast majority of the scenarios and situations differ completely from those of the first Anima Project title, although there will be elements and characters that only those who have played the first instalment of the saga will recognize.

With a soundtrack created by Sonotrigger Studios and graphics that, like on the first Anima, mixes cel-shading graphics with realistic 3D environments, The Nameless Chronicles has everything to become Action RPG of the Year.

Anima: Gate of Memories - Review

by Hiddenx, 23:25

PC PowerPlay has reviewed the open world action RPG Anima: Gate of Memories:

Review: Anima: Gate of Memories

A JRPG by way of Spain...

Anima may not be a known commodity in the English-speaking world, but in Spain and France it’s a popular commodity. A tabletop RPG designed by Carlos B. Garcia Aparacio and the Anima Project Studios, Anima: Beyond Fantasy (the core book) invites players to adventure in the world of Gaia, a land heavily influenced by the art and style of Japanese RPGs, with Asian-inspired honour codes, martial arts and spirituality, but still clinging to some traditional Western fantasy concepts as well. Although the game was briefly released in an English translation around 2010, Anima never really took off outside of Spain and France. In its home country Anima has had multiple editions, many supplements, a 32mm miniatures game, a card game, and more.

[...]

Mostly great bosses and some nice narrative flourishes do a lot to make up for the fairly repetitive combat and generic story.

Score: 7/10

Anima: Gate of Memories - Review @ Destructoid

by Hiddenx, 08:50

Destructoid has reviewed the open-world action RPG Anima: Gate of Memories:

Review: Anima: Gate of Memories

If you're into tabletop role-playing games you may have heard of Anima, but I certainly hadn't prior to playing this. Thankfully, I didn't need to know anything about the series as this open-world action-RPG is a contained story set in the same universe as the board and card games that came before it.

You play as "The Bearer of Calamities," which is a way cooler way of saying 'a generic blond, big-boobed mage who forgot her own name and whose fate is intertwined with a book.' That book isn't just any book -- it contains a god-like demon that just happens to look like a sexy dude and sounds quite similar to Space Dandy (he's a dandy guy, in space). The duo ends up in a tower that acts as a hub world for different locations home to some deranged bosses, each of which has five memories scattered around their level that tell their horrific backstories.

[...]

Aside from some minor camera issues, a sexualized and poorly-written lead, and some annoying bosses, this is a pretty great little game. The graphics are decent, on par with the better-looking games of last generation; the soundtrack is better than it has any right to be; and the set pieces are easy on the eyes and vary greatly between each level. Not only can you get around 25 to 30 hours from the main story, but there is also a new game plus mode with even more endings.

If you're a fan of Nier and looking to get your fix until the proper sequel is out, it is easy to recommend Anima. RPGs rarely hold my attention but I happily sank my time into this one no problem. There's enough quality content here that it feels like the developer or publisher is selling itself short by setting the price so low, as I would have easily been satisfied with this at double the price. It's even more impressive knowing the game was developed by three people. Just know going in that toward the end, you're going to be frustrated with some boss fights, pending the developers don't tweak them in a future update.

Score: 8/10 - Great
