Horizon Zero Dawn - Patch 1.11

by Redglyph, 16:36

Guerilla has brought NVIDIA's DLSS and AMD's FidelityFX Super Resolution to Horizon Zero Dawn with a new update.

Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition for PC - Patch 1.11 is now available

Hi everyone!

We’re happy to announce we’ve just released Patch 1.11 for our PC players. Here’s what this patch contains:

Graphical Improvements

  • Added Nvidia’s DLSS upscaling technology.
  • Added AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution, replacing FidelityFX CAS.

UI Changes

  • Adjusted settings screen to facilitate the addition of DLSS and FSR.
  • Render Scale option has been removed but same result can now be accomplished by adjusting setting Upscale Method to Simple and adjusting Upscale Quality.

Performance Improvements

  • Improvement to the shader management system. This will result in a few noticeable differences:
There is no longer a shader pre-compilation step on startup. The game will always compile shaders during loading and in the background.
  • Stutters during gameplay that used to occur due to background shader compilation have now been significantly reduced.
  • Because shader compilation is still happening in the background you may notice the game having a higher CPU utilization while that is happening.
  • Loading screens will wait for the required shaders to be fully compiled. This may cause loading screens to take somewhat longer on certain systems.
  • On higher spec machines with faster CPUs the loading screens will typically be shorter, due to more efficient shader compilation that better leverages high-end CPUs.

Please ensure your game is up-to-date before heading back out into the wilds, and reach out to us if you’re still experiencing any issues. We appreciate all of your wonderful support and feedback; we wish you a fun-filled festive period!

Horizon Zero Dawn - Focus on Sequel

by Hiddenx, 19:10

Rock Paper Shotgun reports that after patch 1.10 for Horizon Zero Dawn the devs will focus on the sequel Horizon Forbidden West:

Horizon Zero Dawn devs shift focus to sequel after latest PC patch

Horizon Zero Dawn was pretty darn buggy when it came out on PC last year. It was a shame considering it was the first bug PlayStation exclusive to make the jump to PC. But Guerrilla Games have been steadily updating it to fix all sorts of problems, and yesterday the game received its 1.10 patch, adding in a couple more crash fixes and performance improvements.

Notably, this patch marks the start of Guerrilla slowing down on their HZD updates, so they can shift focus to work on the game’s sequel, Horizon Forbidden West.

“As our team continues development on our upcoming title Horizon Forbidden West, we are shifting to less frequent updates for Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition for PC after this patch. Please note that we will continue to monitor our community spaces as always!” they said.

“We want to thank you all for your continued support and for sending in your crash reports over the past months. The information we received through your reports was invaluable to further investigate and help fix some of the trickier issues that we fixed in Patch 1.10.”

Horizon Zero Dawn - Patch 1.06 Available

by Silver, 18:44

A new patch for Horizon Zero Dawn is now available.

Hi everyone,

We’re very happy to release Patch 1.06 for Horizon Zero Dawn on PC today!

First of all, we want to thank you all for your continued feedback, patience and support. In the past couple of weeks, our team has worked hard on some trickier changes that needed some extra time to develop and test. Patch 1.06 addresses some of these issues with additional crash fixes and further improvements on the game. These include some issues reported by the community, such as Aloy not walking in the direction where the camera was facing when pressing forward. Rest assured that our team is still working on other known issues, which we hope to have more info on soon.

You can find the Known Issues and full patch notes for Patch 1.06 below; if your issue isn’t among them, you can send us your reports here.

Please download Patch 1.06 and let us know what you think!

Horizon Zero Dawn - Review @ LaptopMag

by Hiddenx, 17:54

LaptopMag checked out the PC port of Horizon Zero Dawn:

Horizon Zero Dawn review: This is how it runs on PC

Classic case of a great game with a bad port

Horizon Zero Dawn on PC is an excellent disaster. It boasts one of the most obnoxious PC ports I’ve had the experience of testing. This game is a perfect storm of hurdles, with half a dozen crashes, frequent stuttering on certain hardware, an awful optimization process that I experienced three times, and a day-one patch that only made things worse.

Despite all of that, Horizon is still a phenomenal game. If you missed Guerilla’s critically acclaimed RPG back in 2017 and have strong enough hardware to handle the poorly optimized mess that is this PC port, I would still recommend picking it up on a very deep sale. Charging $49.99 for a port with this many issues is ridiculous, especially since the original Complete Edition is available on PS4 for $19.99.

If you’re rocking mid-tier hardware like a GTX 970 or 1660, there is absolutely no reason to purchase this game on PC rather than PS4. Trust me, you’ll find the experience to be unbearable.

Horizon Zero Dawn - Review @ COG

by Hiddenx, 16:16

COG checked out Horizon Zero Dawn:

Horizon: Zero Dawn (PC) Review – Make the World Better, Before it Ends

 Walking a Fine Line

If you have yet to undergo the breathtaking journey that Horizon: Zero Dawn provides, you’ve been missing out. The story of Aloy and her quest to uncover her mysterious past, while taking place in a brilliant amalgamation of ancient civilizations and future utopias, is unlike anything before it. You’ll find Zero Dawn consistently ending up on many critics’ “top games of the generation” list. And if you spend any time at all within its world, it isn’t hard to see why.

[...]

Final Thoughts

If Guerrilla Games hopes to maintain a grasp on its prospective fanbase’s attention, they’ll need to put a hefty amount of work into Horizon: Zero Dawn PC. The journey itself is as incredible as ever. And if you’ve got a computer that can run the damn thing, you’re in for the pinnacle of the series. But for everyone else, I’m not altogether convinced that in its current state, spending the extra money on the PC edition is wholly justified. For now, I’d quietly keep my distance and anticipate further updates.

The Good

  • Gorgeous Visuals
  • Deep Settings Options
  • Every Piece of Content Included

The Bad

  • Optimization Issues
  • Keyboard Doesn’t Translate Well
  • Unreasonably Difficult to Achieve 60 FPS

Score: 79/100

Horizon Zero Dawn - Coming this Summer

by Silver, 18:43

@Playstation Blog During an interview with Herman Hulst, Head of PlayStation's Worldwide Studios, it was revealed that Horizon Zero Dawn will be coming to PC this summer.

PSB: Speaking of experimentation, there have been rumors of a Horizon Zero Dawn complete edition that might be coming to PC… can you confirm or deny that?
HH: Yes, I can confirm that Horizon Zero Dawn is coming to PC this summer…. There will be more information coming from Guerrilla, from the new studio directors [Michiel van der Leeuw, JB van Beek, and Angie Smets] pretty soon.

PSB: PlayStation is no stranger to publishing titles on the PC, but Horizon: Zero Dawn is one of the largest games to make that leap. Is there anything you would say to PlayStation fans? What does it mean for the future?
HH: Sure. I think it’s important that we stay open to new ideas of how to introduce more people to PlayStation, and show people maybe what they’ve been missing out on.

And to maybe put a few minds at ease, releasing one first-party AAA title to PC doesn’t necessarily mean that every game now will come to PC. In my mind, Horizon Zero Dawn was just a great fit in this particular instance. We don’t have plans for day and date [PC releases], and we remain 100% committed to dedicated hardware.

Horizon Zero Dawn - Is Coming to PC

by Hiddenx, 20:15

Kotaku reports that the Action RPG Horizon Zero Dawn will be released for the PC:

Sources: Horizon: Zero Dawn Is Coming To PC

The PlayStation 4 exclusive Horizon: Zero Dawn will come to personal computers this year, sources tell Kotaku. It’s an unprecedented move for Sony that signals a future in which the publisher releases games on platforms beyond its own consoles.

This news comes from three people familiar with Sony’s plans, all speaking anonymously because they were not authorized to talk to press. Sony did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Horizon: Zero Dawn, an open-world game set in a post-apocalyptic version of the United States that has been overrun by robot dinosaurs, launched for PS4 in February 2017. It was critically acclaimed and commercially successful for its developer, Guerrilla Games, which is owned and operated by Sony. And, like other Sony-published games over the past two decades, it was exclusive to a PlayStation console, helping drive sales of Sony’s hardware in addition to generating revenue on its own.
