Steelrising - DLC Cagliostro's Secrets arrives on November 10

by Hiddenx, 16:22

The new DLC Cagliostro's Secrets for Steelrising will be released on November 10:

The New DLC "Cagliostro's Secrets" arrives on November 10th!

This DLC offers players a new level of gameplay, and includes new content:

  • 1 level (Hopital Saint Louis)
  • 1 entirely new quest in the main story
  • 5 weapons
  • 1 boss
  • Several new enemies and new variations of existing enemies
  • 2 new characters
  • New side quests that will invite you to revisit certain levels

In this new quest, you find yourself embroiled in a gripping story involving the King's agent, the Comte de Cagliostro. No one will return unscathed after exploring Hopital Saint Louis – a new area whose secrets have been hidden by Louis XVI.

On this dark adventure, where you must outwit Cagliostro's Mesmer-inspired machinery, you will encounter new enemies and unlock new weapons and costumes. Are you ready to discover the shocking truth about the alchemy that powers the King's automatons?

How to play the DLC:

The expansion “Cagliostro's Secrets” becomes accessible once you have progressed past a certain point in the main story. You must have completed the level ''Bastille'' to gain access to the new content.

Players who have reach the end of the game will be able to choose to load their endgame save to be brought back to a previous spot in-game to play the new content instead of loading the credits. Please note that, by doing so, the progress made in Versailles will be lost and you will have to pass the level again in order to eventually play the NG+.

Players who have purchased the Bastille Edition have direct access to the DLC. Otherwise, the DLC will be available as a standalone purchase.

The DLC patch will also bring various fixes and improvements to the game.

The fight continues on November 10th!

Thanks Couchpotato!

Steelrising - Review @ RPGFan

by Hiddenx, 16:47

RPGFan has reviewed Steelrising:

Steelrising Review

The cojones it takes to release a Soulslike in the era of FromSoftware. But what, in reality, is a Soulslike? It depends on who you ask, which can also be said of roguelikes. However, all that matters is whether or not a game is enjoyable. Steelrising departs from the Soulslike formula in meaningful ways, confidently striding into its own realm of fantastical historical fiction while offering a comfy, breezy action RPG experience.

[...]

Steelrising will catch grief from people who want it to be Dark Souls. And it’s not Dark Souls. Nor should it be. This is a competent, well-designed game that seems to focus on accessibility and reimagining history using a quasi-steampunk aesthetic. Does it have problems? Certainly! The enemies are samey, the platforming is tiresome, the sidequests focus on retracing steps far too often, and the graphics issues will irritate many. That said, I love it. This is a fun game. Soulslike purists will lambaste Steelrising for being too easy and short (about 15 hours), but I’d argue that the genre needs this game. The barrier for entry is far too high for many people who just want to have fun, and Steelrising gives those folks the ability to enjoy this genre. I’m not about gatekeeping. I, for one, applaud Spiders (the developer) for this bold work and hope we see more titles like it.

Score: 81/100

Steelrising - Release Day

by Hiddenx, 05:53

The Action RPG Steelrising will be released today:

Steelrising

The city burns and bleeds as it suffers the madness of King Louis XVI and his violent legions of automatons. Aegis, a mechanical masterpiece created by the engineer Vaucanson to be the queen's bodyguard, must save the French Revolution in this challenging action-RPG.

CHALLENGING COMBAT BETWEEN AUTOMATONS
Up against the king's mechanical soldiers, deadly accuracy will be needed. String together dodges, parries, jumps and devastating attacks to fight your way through Paris. Every fight will test your nerve and requires excellent discipline, while the huge relentless machine bosses demand patience and skill.

AEGIS: A CHARACTER WITH EXTRAORDINARY SKILLS
Define your own style and upgrade your abilities as you progress through the game. You can play as a ruthless warrior, a hard-hitting bodyguard, a deadly dancer or a virtuoso of the elemental arts. Take advantage of a wide variety of weapons and skills to approach each fight in your own unique way.

REVOLUTIONARY PARIS IS YOUR PLAYGROUND
Using carriages, grapples, secret passages, a detailed map, and other methods and tools you find along the way, explore a city experiencing its darkest days. Your grappling hook adds a new dimension to exploration and Paris's verticality. Combined with your dash ability, it will provide access to all the city's secrets across multiple levels you can explore over and over again.

CHANGE THE COURSE OF HISTORY
You are one of the main characters of an alternative history where Paris is being choked by a tyrant king. Allies and enemies with unclear motives will cross your path, such as Marie-Antoinette, Lafayette and Robespierre. It's up to you to cut a path through all the plotting and put an end to one man's madness so that the French Revolution succeeds.

Steelrising - Hands On @ IGN

by Hiddenx, 17:59

IGN checked out Steeelrising:

Steelrising Is Looking Like a Surprisingly Good Bloodborne Tribute

Vive la Soulslike.

Developer Spiders is best known as something of a BioWare tribute studio. Its most successful game, GreedFall, is the latest in a modest line of RPGs that draw heavily upon the likes of Mass Effect and Dragon Age. But Spiders’ next game, Steelrising, is nothing like a BioWare game at all. Instead, it’s an ode to FromSoftware. Specifically, it is Bloodborne set in the French Revolution, with Yarnham’s beasts swapped out for Parisian clockwork robots. As a pitch, it sounds a little derivative (at least mechanically). But despite seemingly minimal innovations, playing Steelrising reveals something that has genuine promise.

At a recent hands-on event I was able to play around three hours of Steelrising, which covered the opening locations and the first major boss. Playing as Aegis, a clockwork automaton ballerina-turned-bodyguard, I explored a small variety of twisty rural village and Parisian city locations that knotted themselves together with shortcut routes. As I tore apart robotic enemies with blades and bullets I collected Anima Essence, a resource that I could use to upgrade my stats and improve my weapons, provided I didn’t lose it upon death. Upgrades were conducted at ‘Vestal’ checkpoints, which also refilled my health restoring oil burette with a fresh supply. If it’s not already clear, Steelrising plays exactly like a FromSoftware game.

Steelrising - New Story Trailer

by Redglyph, 15:04

RPG Fan reports a new trailer for Steelrising.

Steelrising Steeps Itself In Clockwork Combat In New Story Trailer

Publisher Navcon and developer Spiders have released a new story trailer for their upcoming action RPG Steelrising at the 2021 Game Awards. The trailer showcases its robotic protagonist wending their way through an alternate-history Paris steeped in chaos, combat and flame. Check it out below!

loading...

The trailer centralises players into its setting: an alternate history of Paris in the year 1789 where King Louis XVI has suppressed the French Revolution with an army of clockwork combatants. It then showcases Aegis—the protagonist of Steelrising. Players will take on the role of Aegis as they contend with the city before her, seeking to untangle the knots of an alternate broken Revolution and eventually subdue and defeat the Clockwork Tyrant.

Steelrising is set to release in June 2022 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S|X, and Windows PC via Steam.

Personally, I’m all for alternate takes on historical events, and this one looks to be a legitimate layup from Spiders from an aesthetic standpoint. I hope the gameplay will match the bombastic tone of its premise, because if so, this is definitely something to watch in the months to come. For all news Steelrising and RPG, stay tuned to RPGFan!
