Survivalist - Repairing & Taking Over Buildings

by Couchpotato, 00:51

The latest update on Steam for Survivalist has information on a few changes in the next Beta patch that allows you to repair, and take over vacant buildings.

I noticed quite a few people were wanting to set up bases in different parts of the map, so I decided to make that a bit easier by adding the ability to take over buildings (such as houses and restaurants) that don't belong to another community. This is now available in the publicbeta branch.

It's been a pretty common feature request ever since I released the game. I was never quite sure how to implement it as I always felt there needed to be a 'cost' to it - you shouldn't just be able to click on every house you see and take it over (apart from being a bit silly, it would cause some problems for the AI).

In the end I decided that taking over a building means you have to board up the windows, which requires wood. So get some Wood Planks, go up to the building, equip the Toolbox, and press the Alternate Action button and the character will get to work boarding up the windows.

Repairing is another feature that gets requested from time to time so I've taken the opportunity to implement that in a similar way, using the same code, except it removes the damage scorch marks instead of boarding up the windows

Survivalist - An Open-World Zombie RPG

by Couchpotato, 06:06

I received news of a game called Survivalist from developer Bob the Game Development Bot. His game has been available on Steam for a few months with positive reviews.

It's one year after the collapse of civilization and self-centered hedge fund manager Joe Wheeler emerges from his specially constructed bunker in search of food. This is a huge open-world Role Playing Game where you have the freedom to play how you want - but your choices have consequences. Your aim is to find other survivors, gain their respect, and build a community. You'll scavenge for supplies, trade, plant crops, go on quests, face moral dilemmas, go to war, and uncover dark, terrible secrets!

We also added the game to our Steam Curator list thanks to HiddenX.

Challenging open world sandbox RPG. Try to survive with tactics in a post-apocalyptic world infested by zombies. Good indie game for a fair price!
