Visions of Mana - Preview
MP1st checked out Visions of Mana:
Visions of Mana Hands-On Preview – A Classic Returns
The Mana series of video games is over three decades old, beginning in 1991 as Final Fantasy Adventure for the Game Boy handheld system. It has been eight years since the last release in this franchise, with 2016’s mobile-centric Adventures of Mana the last new entry, even if that was itself a remake of the original 1992 Adventure title. The first mainline entry in almost two decades, Visions of Mana, is nearly upon us, and Square Enix invited MP1st to get some world-first hands-on time with a preview build of the game ahead of its release later this year. Read our preview to see how this latest iteration of the venerable franchise is shaping up.
So Many Colors!
Visions of Mana sports a brightly colored palette, with a cel-shaded art style that could fit in with any JRPG. There’s nothing groundbreaking here in terms of looks, but it is gorgeous all the same. We saw wide, sweeping vistas, along with deep, treacherous canyons, and tall, snowy mountains, all within our short 1.5-hour or so trip into the world of Mana. It’s one you’ll no doubt enjoy visiting time and time again. Audio is also equally fitting, with an orchestral-like soundtrack that helps add to the epic adventure you and your crew are undertaking. There’s plenty of voiceover work as well, with voices pretty well suited to each character.[...]

Visions of Mana - Interview @ RPG Site
RPG Site interviewed Mana Series Producer, Masaru Oyamada-san:
Visions of Mana Interview: Masaru Oyamada and designing a world touched by the Elemental Spirits
When we had the chance to play the upcoming Visions of Mana earlier this month, Square Enix was kind enough to offer us a chance to have a chat with the Mana Series Producer, Masaru Oyamada-san. We talked about the long wait for another release in the series, and what the goals were when developing it.
RPG Site: So, it's been nearly 2 decades since the last truly new release in the Mana series. Obviously we had the Trials of Mana remake a few years that was a milestone for the series as it had been dormant for quite a while at that point. With that being said; what has been the goal with Visions of Mana, considering that it's essentially a revival for what must be one of Square Enix's most seminal and beloved RPG franchises?
Masaru Oyamada: So a strong objective that we had was that, this series, it's been 15 years since the last mainline game launched. When the original inceptor of the series, Koichi Ishii, originally left his position - we found ourselves in a situation where we weren't able to release a new game in the series. Yet in the end we still really wanted to release a flagship game for the Mana franchise as a whole. Trials of Mana in and of itself was a very ambitious remake; the reception for that was well-received by fans, and we conducted a survey just to gauge interest from users - with many expressing interest in a new installment in the series. Ultimately, our hope is to be able to deliver such a title to fans is what has lead us to Visions of Mana.

The series' first mainline entry in over 15 years is shaking off the rust, but shows some promise
I’m filling in some gaps in my RPG history. I’ve been playing series like Final Fantasy since I was a kid, but there are countless other landmark RPGs I’ve rarely touched, including the fantasy RPG Mana series, which splintered off of Final Fantasy Adventure in 1991. The only installment in the long-running franchise I’ve played, in fact, is Children of Mana on the Nintendo DS, which I loved! Nonetheless, I’m on a journey to right my wrongs, so when I was presented with the chance to see the first mainline Mana game since 2006 at PAX East last week, I had to check it out for myself.

Visions of Mana - Main Characters
RPG Site presents the main charcters and features of Visions of Mana:
Visions of Mana main characters and features revealed
It's been a while since we last saw new information for Square Enix's upcoming game Visions of Mana. The game was first announced at The Game Awards 2023 in December, and it also appeared at last January's Xbox Developer_Direct 2024 where we got introduced to the Pikul creatures among others.
Recently in early March, Square Enix published a new press release to Japanese outlets that introduced the game's main characters and features. But as of this writing, the company has yet to update the game's official website or release an English version of the press release, so we have translated the details that we could get from the Japanese article. Note that the romanizations of characters and terms that have not been confirmed in official English press releases are still tentative and may change in the future.
