Gauntlet - More E3 Previews

by Couchpotato, 2014-06-22 04:25:34

I found two more previews this week based on a demo of Gauntlet from E3.

RPGFan

I felt like I was watching a new paintjob on a very old concept. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but there wasn't anything truly new or exciting about Gauntlet. It's just Gauntlet. I kept waiting to see something that screamed creativity or at least held my attention above watching axes fly across the screen. There's still a chance that environmental interaction or more complicated bosses lay in wait for would-be adventurers, but for now it would appear that Gauntlet is going to be a fun nostalgic trip for some and a small download experience for others. Here's hoping there's a bit more meat on this particular chicken leg that will come to light upon release.

Gaming Lives

This is probably one of the best remakes I have ever come across in any medium. The guys and gals at Arrowhead must really have loved the original Gauntlet as they have recreated it with a spectacular modern feeling, yet maintained all of the elements that made Gauntlet such a hit back in 1985. I doff my metaphorical hat to them, and thank them wholeheartedly for treating this beloved friend so very gently. They have maintained the very soul of the original Atari classic and that is a rare thing in these modern times. And with that, this elf needs food… badly.
