Might & Magic Heroes VII - New Content

by Aubrielle, 04:21

The Lost Tales of Axeoth: Unity, the first of two big content updates to Might & Magic Heroes VII, will arrive in February.

Ubisoft's official Might & Magic Heroes VII blog brings word that The Lost Tales of Axeoth: Unity, the first of two content updates to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Heroes of Might and Magic, will be released in February 2016. Both the Unity and the forthcoming Every Dog Has His Day add-ons are written by Heroes of Might and Magic IV’s Terry B. Ray and will include new heroes, new music, new artifacts, and more. A little something on Unity:

Several months have passed since the announcement of The Lost Tales of Axeoth, the great project of our Level Designer and Writer Julien Pirou wishing to bring back to life lost scripts from Heroes of Might and Magic IV.

Fully developed with the official map editor delivered with the game, the first campaign “Unity” will be available through a dedicated update to be released on February 2016.

Some context:
Unity, the first campaign of The Lost Tales, takes place after the Reckoning; the cataclysmic event that destroyed the world of Enroth, forcing countless survivors to cross mysterious portals into a brand new, unexplored world. The Reckoning not only threw civilization into chaos, but the study of magic as well. Many of the old spell libraries were destroyed before their contents could be saved. Many Wizards who attempted to gather the books took too much time and died. Untold centuries of knowledge was lost. An organized effort to collect and rewrite the lost spells from the memories of those magic users who survived is being met with a little resistance. Few sorcerers want to give up their precious spell books for such a cause, so the process is slow and painful. Too slow for Genevieve Seymour, who embarks on an odyssey through the Broken Isles to create a brand new philosophy of magic: the Theory of Unity.

Might & Magic Heroes VII - Patch 1.5

by Myrthos, 12:03

The patch for Might & Magic Heroes 7 is available now and it focuses on multiplayer and out of sync issues, while adding 2 new Maps, 5 additional neutrals and 12 Heroes.

We are pleased to announce to you the direct availability of Patch 1.5 for Might & Magic Heroes VII.

While last patch was focusing on performance improvements, a primary topic that has been addressed with 1.5 is Multiplayer and Out of Sync issues.

The development team has been hard at work testing as many different possible scenarios that could cause the issue to arise and has made significant head way in fixing them.

However remaining transparent with our fans is always important to us and we would like to iterate that there may still be some cases where the game can go out of sync. If you experience out of sync issues post 1.5 sending us game logs and save game files helps tremendously, and it is with that kind of player base support we've already received that helped us make good progresses with 1.5.

Another exciting new addition coming with 1.5 is the inclusion of 2 new Maps. On top with this we have introduced 5 additional neutrals and 12 Heroes to discover on the following dedicated article: HERE

As always we want to assure you that we are continually working on making Heroes 7 the best game it can be. We'd also like to extend a thank you to you, the community, for sticking with the game and helping us by providing detailed bug reports, game logs and savegames when you've experienced a problem. This has helped tremendously and a lot of the fixes in today’s patch come directly because of the community involvement with the process.

Patch 1.5 top lines:

  • Further improved multiplayer in combat and on adventure map for out of syncs
  • Additional content: 2 new Maps, 12 additional Heroes, 5 additional Neutral creatures. See dedicated article for more information!
  • Fixed long loading times experienced by some of the users, which were caused by recompiling low quality shaders
  • Improved animation system for smoother combat animations
  • Improved AI, Editor and other various Gameplay/Level Design elements (173 fixed bugs)

Thanks Eye.

Might & Magic Heroes VII - Review @ Invision Community

by Myrthos, 14:30

Invision Community reviewed Might & Magic Heroes 7 and walked away with a positive feeling.

Overall the game is good. Saying good seems to be harsh as it is such a mundane, boring sentiment, but, by this I mean it does what it feels it should with its continuing lore heavy story carried from the series predecessors. It’s interesting game mechanics with the heroes features that are introduced during combat adds to, this to however, it falls into maybe more of a “massive” turn based strategy game in which you are concerned with a bunch of small fights during a big campaign map as opposed to small skirmishes which I personally find less fun as more time is spent in making sure you do not make tiny mistakes and overall the games are a lot longer and arduous. So if you are a fan of might and magic and like to do your fighting in lots of small but tactical skirmishes and like a massive maps to play extensively then this Is a great game for you, however if you prefer the more squad focused turn based strategy games then you may find this game a little harder to get into.

Thanks Eye.

Might & Magic Heroes VII - Preview @ RPGFan

by Couchpotato, 05:34

RPGFan published a new preview of Might & Magic Heroes VII. The overall tone of the preview seems postie, and as usual here is small sample for everyone.

If I saw one flaw, it was a lack of streamlining and conveyance for the player. There were several times where I blew past map objectives because I did not realize they were necessary to my quest. Menus could also be a pain to navigate or find relevant information. For instance, when I got my fortress, I noticed that I could assign a hero to act as governor and provide a bonus effect, but I had to exit out to the hero menu to learn what that hero's governor ability did. At one point, I spent at least a minute trying to figure out how to exit another menu. When I was a kid, I would have solved this problem by reading the instruction manual after unboxing the game, but those days are long gone. I don't want hand holding, but players need certain basic information in order to enjoy the more rewarding gameplay aspects.

I am confident that Limbic can fix these problems before the game ships. I am also confident that Heroes VII at least has the potential to make the franchise relevant again outside the diehard fan base. This means welcoming new players with no exposure to the storied franchise, as well as older players like me who have lost touch. Ubisoft and Limbic seem to understand that creating a "Best of Heroes" experience is more than simply Frankensteining popular game mechanics together into a graphical update. Rather, it is about capturing that ineffable, engrossing quality of the old and making it relevant to the new. It is no easy task, but so far, I like what I see.

Might & Magic Heroes VII - Community Q&A #2

by Couchpotato, 03:22

Ubisoft posted the second part of their Community Q&A for Might & Magic Heroes VII.

Welcome to the second part of this community Q&A! Today’s topic: Production.

First of all, what is Production? To make it short, the production is the area covering development follow-up and prioritization of the tasks. They are also in charge of game development project management but aren’t the one that decide how game features works which is the domain of Game Designers.

We are coming on step closer to the main dishes of this Q&A that will be the GameDesign article. Indeed, it seems that as Heroes fans you had many questions about game mechanics and our choices regarding this area. We are looking forward sharing our answers with you!

Might & Magic Heroes VII - Town Development

by Couchpotato, 03:35

The latest post on the Might & Magic Heroes VII website talks about Town Development. Some of you maybe intrested as the last game had changes some didn't like.

Town development in Heroes VII

Towns are the heart of a hero’s kingdom. They are shaped to serve his ambitions and his needs.

Each faction has its own town structure. Many buildings are common to all factions, but some are specific. Also, as all factions have different approach of architecture, culture and urbanism, therefore towns have a different structure depending on their faction.

For instance, Academy towns have access to Magic Guilds earlier, and can develop specific buildings to improve their Magic Guilds.

Haven towns have fast access to the strongest possible walls. Stronghold towns offer dwellings before more elaborate buildings.

Prices also differ according to each faction, especially since the most elaborate buildings require rare resources, which create different needs in resources for each faction. For instance, Sylvan towns require more starsilver than most, when Stronghold rley a lot on wood.

Might & Magic Heroes VII - Sylvan Faction Won

by Couchpotato, 03:28

Thanks to the vote for what faction gamers wanted in Might & Magic Heroes VII it seems the Sylvan Faction will now be added to final game. Here are the details.

So, the time allotted to the vote is now coming to an end. The response was overwhelming, and it quickly became pretty clear that within our Shadow Council a majority believes the Elves of Irollan would make adequate allies for Ivan.

You can now vote on what units get added to the faction now.

Our game designers have offered us a choice regarding the composition of the Sylvan Army. Three different line-ups have been suggested and it’s your voice that will make the difference. Don’t hesitate to share the news with your friends to put your favorite alternative in the lead!

Even if they have some similarities, those three line-ups are different, more oriented on defense or offence, or in-between. These three line-ups are meant to be of equal strength, and be balanced with the power of the other Factions present in the game.

This vote will define the soul and heart of the Sylvan armies and what play style will suit them, so choose wisely!

Remember that you can change your vote at any time, so listen to the other members of this council, hear their arguments and offer your own. The Sylvan Armies will be a great help in the battles to come, but you still have to decide how.

Might & Magic Heroes VII - New Music Interview

by Couchpotato, 02:59

Thewebsite for Might & Magic Heroes VII has a new interview with Rob King, and Paul Romero about the game music in the Might & Magic game series.

2015 will mark the 20th anniversary of the Heroes series. Can you tell us how you became involved with Might & Magic?

Rob King: I started working at New World Computing back in Feb. 1994 and was originally hired as “The Sound Guy” which then became the Audio Director. The idea of Heroes was spawned from an earlier title called King's Bounty that Jon Van Caneghem created back in his parent’s garage I believe. It was one of the first projects I worked on ay NWC. When I first saw the concept art I was quickly inspired to want to do a Baroque influenced Classical score. At this point my musical background was mostly writing Pop/Rock/Electronic music and I knew I needed a true classical guy to pull this off. About 6 months prior to getting my job at NWC I went to a party with a friend that just so happened to be at Paul Romero’s house. Paul was already kind of known to throw these great parties with good food, drinks and talented musicians getting together to perform various repertoires of music. I met Paul in his kitchen over a glass of wine an instantly loved the guy as we discussed music and recording. Flash forward to when we started the concept of Heroes 1, I always had Paul in the back of my mind from our first encounter and decided to give him a call. I told him my idea for the game and he was pretty thrilled with the idea and was up for the challenge of doing a score for a video game.

Paul Romero: Rob asked if I could make some tunes in a baroque feel that sounded like Vivaldi, Bach, or Handel.. Since I grew up learning the music of Bach, Scarlatti and Handel I felt like knew how the harmonic and melodic content was structured for that particular time period. And so I told Rob the types of instruments and orchestrations needed for that kind of baroque-era feeling and he put together a full arsenal of sounds for me. Hence, this is how be began our partnership 20 years ago. We had one week to create the score for this first Heroes game”. It was a fun fun time for me because I had never played a computer game and I had never created soundtrack music. I had only classical composed concerti, choral works, piano works, and chamber music for concert work. This was a whole new world for me: creating music to help make a fantasy world in a strategic computer game.
