Scarlet Nexus - New Story Demo

by Hiddenx, 17:36

A new story demo is available for Scarlet Nexus:

Accessing ... Story Demo

New "Story Demo" available now!
A new demo version "Story Demo" has been released, allowing players to experience the introductory section of the critically-acclaimed story from the point of view of the dual protagonists, Yuito Sumeragi and Kasane Randall.

Players can play through to Phase 2 of the story from the full game. Save data from the "Story Demo" can then be carried across to the full retail version, allowing you to pick up where you left off and also unlock special bonus content as well.

Some elements in "Story Demo" are restricted, and differ slightly from the full retail version. Additionally, since the bonus content is the same as content unlcoked from carrying save data from "Demo Edition", players who have already acquired this content will not be eligible to acquire it for a second time.

*For the Steam® version, the "Demo Edition" and the "Story Demo" are available as a single download. Either can be selected at startup, and both are available to be played.
*The items obtainable as bonus content can also be obtained in the full retail version by making your way through the story.

The free-to-play "Story Demo" is highly recommended for anyone who has yet to give "SCARLET NEXUS" a try!

Thanks Redglyph!

Destructoid reports that the demo for Scarlet Nexus is now available on PC.

Scarlet Nexus went live for PC and consoles back in June. Before then, a demo was launched, but just for console platforms. Today, Bandai Namco confirmed the demo is now available on PC as well.

The publisher didn’t specify a reason for the delay of the PC demo, which is now live on Steam. There’s also a new DLC Pack on the way as well, which unlocks a new EX level bond extension, opening up new SAS powers and bond episodes, as well as additional costumes and weapons.

Scarlet Nexus - Review @ Gamefreaks365

by Hiddenx, 17:43

Gamefreaks365 checked out the action RPG Scarlet Nexus:

Scarlet Nexus Review

Scarlet Nexus is an excellent new IP that lays a strong foundation for future entries, while self-containing its well-developed narrative.

I really appreciate some of the new IP Bandai Namco has put out in recent years. Code Vein, Captain Tsubasa, and even Little Nightmares have all been relatively new ideas. Now that Scarlet Nexus has been released – a game I’ve been looking forward to since it was announced – I can officially add it to the list of unique releases from Bandai Namco.

A lot of it falls in line with the publisher’s other offerings. It’s an anime title with a lot of the typical anime tropes, but a strong narrative with an excellent supporting cast bolsters it throughout.
A dual-sided story

Scarlet Nexus is through and through an action RPG. Players take control of either a young man named Yuito or a young woman named Kasane. What makes Scarlet Nexus really unique is that it’s ultimately two games in one. Each character has their own stories that converge at various points during the narrative. I’m only about halfway through Kasane’s story, but I’ve finished Yuito’s. Both protagonists have full story arcs too, with each one lasting about 20-30 hours with all of the cutscenes and story beats, depending on how much time you sink into the side quests.

[...]

Conclusion

Scarlet Nexus is another great new IP from Bandai Namco. As much as I love all of their anime-based titles, I would love to see even more of these new experiences, as the developers in their umbrella really seem to excel at them. We’re just a few months away from Tales of Arise, so I’ll be spending some more time with Yuito and Kasane in the meantime.

Scarlet Nexus - Review @ Screenrant

by Hiddenx, 14:55

Screenrant reviewed the action RPG Scarlet Nexus:

Scarlet Nexus Review: A Superpowered Action RPG

Scarlet Nexus is an action RPG about a group of psychics battling extradimensional enemies, in a title with a bland story, but great action.

Scarlet Nexus is an action RPG developed and published by Bandai Namco. What Scarlet Nexus lacks in character development and story, it more than makes up for with its excellent combat system, which has some of the best representations of superpowers in modern gaming.

The futuristic world of Scarlet Nexus is home to an unnatural phenomenon called the Extinction Belt, which spits horrific monsters into the world. These monsters are called the Others, and they mindlessly kill all humans they encounter. The only thing protecting mankind from this enemy is the Other Suppression Force (OSF), which is made up of soldiers with psychic powers. The player starts the story by picking one of two new OSF cadets, Yuito Sumeragi or Kasane Randall. They soon become embroiled in a battle to determine the future of humanity, as the sinister origin of the Others is slowly uncovered.

[...]

Scarlet Nexus feels like an anime adaptation, but instead of adapting a specific series, it's taking a hodgepodge of tropes and putting them in a blender. The story is almost an afterthought to its thrilling action, which never gets dull. The best superhero games are the ones that actually make the player feel like they are playing as a character from a comic book, and Scarlet Nexus manages to pull this off with style, making it an excellent choice for fans of over-the-top action or anime-style storytelling.

Scarlet Nexus - Review @ COG

by Hiddenx, 17:24

COG has reviewed the upcoming action RPG Scarlet Nexus:

Scarlet Nexus Review

You've heard of steampunk. And cyberpunk. Thanks to Bandai Namco’s Scarlet Nexus, we can add "brain punk" to our lexicon of punk-associated terms. Set in a future in which augmented reality is everywhere, and telepathy is a common way to communicate, Scarlet Nexus leans hard into both its brain punk aesthetic and all the potential power and pitfalls of weaponizing the mind.
Depending on which character you select, the action RPG Scarlet Nexus follows the story of either Yuito Sumeragi or Kasane Randall as they train and fight for the Other Suppression Force (OSF), a special paramilitary outfit that uses the various mental abilities of its recruits to fight the Others. Monsters that appear from a low-atmosphere phenomenon called the Extinction Belt, the Others are terrorizing New Himuka, and members of the OSF use both standard weapons and mental abilities like pyrokinesis to battle them.

[...]

Scarlet Nexus marries varied and unique action RPG combat to two extended campaigns featuring engaging protagonists and a cast of memorable supporting players. Using its brain punk conceit to power a range of extended combat techniques, Scarlet Nexus is at its best in the thick of the fight, when the player can mix and match melee weapons, telekinetic beatdowns, and whatever talents the team on hand has to share. Unfortunately, there’s some repetition in both the enemies and the combat arenas, and the pacing stutters here and there when it pauses for the story a little too long. On the whole, though, Scarlet Nexus' refreshing action, story, and trippy brain punk visual style are the game’s superpowers that make it worth playing.

The Good

  • Excellent action combat
  • Interesting protagonists and story
  • Unique setting
  • Weird enemies

The Bad

  • Repetitive combat arenas
  • Pacing can drag
  • Static dialogue screens
  • Music is generic and forgettable

Score: 84/100
