Game of the Year Awards 2012 - Best Indie RPG
For almost one week you could vote for the Best Indie RPG of 2012 and we now present you the results of your votes.
Gamers' Choice: Legend of Grimrock
Legend of Grimrock brings us a dungeon crawler that brings us back to those days when dungeon crawlers were common and takes its inspiration from many classic games such as Dungeon Master and Eye of the Beholder, with the difference that it looks better.
LoG was the break-through title for the developer Almost Human. After dozens of positive reviews and huge sales numbers the RPGWatch GOTY Award cannot be considered a surprise at all, but rather the continuation of a success story.
Gamers' Runner up: Avernum: Escape from the Pit
Avernum: Escape from the Pit, brings the original Avernum back, which itself was a remake of the first Spiderweb game Exile: Escape fro the Pit. This time it has better graphics and an updated engine (from Avernum 6). It offers a large open world to explore and should suite everybody who enjoys some old-school exploration.
If you want to try out the Avernum series, this remake of the original would be a good place to start. Although some of the design choices cannot hide that it is a remake of a remake of the first Spiderweb game, it is still a very good game.
Gamers' Third Place: Drox Operative
Drox Operative is an action RPG that could be described as Diablo meets Civilization in space. It offers a high replayability with randomized space sectors where new planets are to be discovered and races to be conquered, bringing you what is needed to add more improvements to your ship, thus enabling you to conquer even more areas and ships.
