Game of the Year Awards 2013 - Most Promising RPG

In the last week you could vote for the Most Promising RPG of 2014 and we now present you the results of your votes.

 

Gamers' Choice: Pillars of Eternity

What would RPGs be like if it wasn't for Kickstarter, would we end up with more mediocre games that appeal to even large masses or where even more awesome things happen when a button is pressed?
Fortunately there is Kickstarter and it shows that there is a large community out there that can relate to a good concept for a game and throw their money at it. Pillars of Eternity is such a game and with raising over 4 million dollars the expectations are high, so let's hope they are fulfilled as well when the game releases (scheduled for Q4, this year).

 

 

Gamers' Choice Runner up: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the conclusion of the Witcher series. It is based on a new engine that is said to offer the possibility to make a large open world while still having a complex story and great gameplay. It is featured to be bigger than Skyrim with over 100 hours of gameplay. It is also the only game in the top 4 that wasn't on Kickstarter.
Even though the previous Withcher games weren't perfect (what game is?), CD Project Red have shown in the past that they know how to make a RPG that can be enjoyed by many of us.
The Withcher 3: Wild Hunt is expected to be released in 2014, although no formal date has been set for it up to now.

 

 

Gamers' Choice Third Place: Divinity: Original Sin

At RPGwatch (and before at RPGDot) we always have had somewhat of a soft spot for Larian Studios. Perhaps not all of their released games have been perfect, but they are a great team that show a refreshing way of communicating with their fans and know what it takes to make a RPG that we will enjoy.
Divinity: Original Sin would have been made even without the funding from Kickstarter, but it can be made better and closer to what they have envisioned now that they raised over a million dollars for it on Kickstarter. All those who have pledged or have payed for Early Access can play the alpha version of the game and see where it is heading and offer feedback, which they use to further improve the game.

The release date is still a bit unclear with rumors having it at Q2 or early Q3, but as Swen "Lar" Vincke has mentioned aready a few times: It's done when it's done. With that in mind this is bound to be a contender for Best RPG in 2014, together with the others in the top 4.
