Game of the Year Awards 2020 - Best RPG

by RPGWatch, 2021-01-27

Here are the winners of the Game of The Year 2020 as voted by our members. Unfortunately there were insufficient votes from our editors to be able to hand out and Editors' Choice award for anything else than the first spot.

Gamers' and Editor's Choice: Wasteland 3

RPGWatch GoldRPGWatch Gold

Wasteland 3 continues the tradition of the Wasteland and early Fallout series. It features character building, many choices and consequences, skill checks, a weird postapocalyptic storyline and lots of turn-based combat. While not perfect the game has improved in all aspects compared to Wasteland 2.

A worthy GotY 2020!

Gamers' Runner Up: Cyberpunk 2077

RPGWatch Silver

If it had been in development a little longer Cyberpunk 2077 would perhaps be the GotY 2020. The sci-fi world of Cyberpunk 2077 offers lots of storylines and quests and a fantastic looking Night City - a place to immerse yourself.

Chances are good that CD Project Red will enhance the game in 2021.

Gamers' Third Place: Horizon Zero Dawn

RPGWatch Bronze

Horizon Zero Dawn is a proof that more and more blockbuster console games are getting released on the PC and are successful on this platform as well.

The Numbers

The following table shows the results of the voting by our members.

Gamers' Choice
Rank Game
1 Wasteland 3
2 Cyberpunk 2077
3 Horizon Zero Dawn
4 Assassin's Creed Valhalla
5 Hades
6 Troubleshooter: Abandoned Children
7 Yakuza: Like a Dragon
8 The Dungeon of Naheulbeuk: The Amulet of Chaos
9 Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem
10 XCOM: Chimera Squad

All other games scored a percentage of less than 1.3%. And for the record, The first 3 games had respectively 26%, 21% and 6% of the votes. But the game that should have been in 3rd spot is None, which had 20% of the votes.

There were not many votes from the RPGWatch staff. The only game that almost everyone voted for was Wasteland 3. All other games that were voted for received a vote from one editor only, which is why there is only 1 game as Editor's Choice.
